His role at Hi Inov

As a Operating Partner Portfolio Management, Alex’s role is to support Hi Inov’s portfolio companies, rain or shine. Beyond representing Hi Inov at the board of their investments, he leverages his long operational experience to provide advice and guidance to founders and their C-suite, especially when navigating through rough terrain or preparing for the exit.

He very much enjoys working with the rest of the investment team, share from his experience, connect people within the ecosystem, and is always available as a sparring partner to “throw rocks at an idea and see whether they bounce back”.

His vision of Hi Inov

Properly investing in B2B Tech and Enterprise Software calls for deep domain expertise and a broad network that can be called upon for help and advice: Hi Inov has built just that and this gives us an edge.

His Background

A dual Canadian-French Citizen, Alex graduated from McGill University in Montreal in 1997 and immediately started working for the incumbent Canadian Telco’s international arm. He was then sent to France to help set up the local subsidiary when markets deregulated, after which he founded and led the EMEA operations of a telecom VoIP startup (that unfortunately failed). After 3 years of Management Consulting, he joined TATA Communications, one of the world’s largest telcos, where he grew into a variety of Management roles through his 12 years tenure. He then studied his MBA at HEC Paris and moved on to Microsoft to support the landing of Azure innovations in Europe. In 2018, he was given the opportunity to join a VC Partnership in Paris, leading him to invest in Enterprise Software startups, mostly at Series A stage, and became acquainted with the Hi Inov team as they shared board seats with him! When his fund Management Company (Cap Horn) was offered to be acquired by another one, he decided to work independently and become a Venture Partner for his former fund. He has kept his board seats, never stopped advising founders, and has led some restructuring, refinancing rounds and most importantly successful exits.

A good conversation starter with Alexandre

Alex has deep respect for entrepreneurs and their challenges. He loves discussing governance issues and is anything but afraid of rocky situations – on the contrary! He has many more interests than tech and business, and he loves winding down with his wife and 2 teenagers – be it traveling the world, hiking mountains (on foot or skis), cycling, watching rugby, or just sharing good meals and excellent wines with friends.
